Summary
The BMW F01 is the current 7 series that went into production in September 2008. The long wheelbase model, codenamed BMW F02, is 14 cm (5.5 in) longer than the BMW F01.

Design For the 7 Series, the previous E65/E66 model marked a revolution in the 7-Series design, while the F01 is more evolutionary. The front end is inspired by the BMW CS Concept, from the large twin grilles to the headlamps, which have "eyebrows" and internal configuration similar to individual lamps but slightly different in shape. It now looks more conventional and less controversial than the vehicle it replaces. The interior has also been reworked and the column-mounted shifter has relocated to the center console. Its tail lights have design cues to the E32 7-series.

Technology and equipment The models include a 6-speed automatic transmission (760i/Li;Activhybrid7: 8-speed automatic). Dynamic Drive Control with optional Adaptive Drive added COMFORT setting in addition to Comfort, NORMAL, SPORT and SPORT+ modes, with reduced stability control intervention in the SPORT+ setting and in the traction mode. The cargo capacity is 500 litres. Optional features include 4-zone automatic air conditioning, telecommunication and navigation systems, a USB port, iPhone integration, bluetooth, an 80-GB hard disc for navigation data and music collection, a multi-channel audio system, a DAB double tuner, a DVD entertainment system at the rear, a Heads-Up Display, an electrically swivelling trailer hook, long wheelbase, luxury seating: massage, heated seats (front and rear), adaptive steering, and ceramic controls. Mexican built 7 series also carry the options for a rear refrigerator,selective multi-color ambient lighting, and extended range night vision.They also have several interior trim options only available for the Mexican market including red leather, black & red leather, and tan & black leather. Mexican built 7 series are also available in special police and political services packages. A number of these models are in service with the Mexican Federal Government and the Mexican Federal Police as well as the Public Security Secretary.

Safety All BMW 7 Series' have in series safety equipment: Beside ABS including brake assistant and CBC (Cornering Brake control) pretensioner and belt load limiter on all seats, ESP (Dynamic Stability Control, BMW) with DTC (Dynamic Traction Control) are present. Furthermore 10 Airbags (driver/front passenger, head curtain airbags (both rows) and two sideairbags,front outboard and rear outboard, as well as driver and passenger knee airbags) and active headrests in front. The adaptive brake lights indicate how strongly the vehicle is braking. In the case of an emergency stop, the normal LED running lights (on when low beams are on) are illuminated to the same intensity of the brighter normal LED brake indicator light, creating a large, extra bright light to warn drivers behind. Also, adaptive bi-xenon headlights (low beam) swivel in accordance with the steering wheel for curves, level when going over hills, or when the car is loaded, to reduce glare to other drivers. Also, front mounted side turn indicators are standard on every BMW on the fenders. In the 7 Series - partly against surcharge - are several driver assistance systems: Adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go feature Blind Spot Information System, Lane departure warning system, Night vision Head-Up Display, Integral Active Steering (rear wheel steering) xDrive (available for the first time on the 7 Series, only for the 750i/Li and Alpina B7) (2010+) Rear view camera, Sideview (two cameras in the front bumper that look to the left and right) Topview (of the two additional cameras in the exterior mirrors, the side-view cameras, reversing camera and sensors from the PDC to create an overall picture of the vehicle and its environment, and show it from the air) and Speed limit display For this, a camera will check street signs with speed limits. These are displayed in the speedometer, as well as head-up display.

Feature

Dynamic Damping Control in the BMW 7 Series Sedan. No matter what speed you're travelling at or road surface you're driving on, you're guaranteed outstanding driving comfort in the BMW 7 Series Sedan. The new shock absorbers send information four hundred times a second to the Dynamic Damping Control system and are now infinitely and independently adjustable for both compression and rebound damping. This means that the dampers adapt to the state of the road irrespective of which Dynamic Driving Control mode is selected, for exceptional ride comfort even when driving hard on bumpy surfaces.

xDrive in the BMW 740d, 750i and 750Li. To ensure that the superior driving dynamics of the BMW 740d and 750i remain constant on every surface, the intelligent all-wheel drive system xDrive distributes engine power variably to both axles as the situation requires. The system allows the driver to enjoy the full power and agility of the vehicle by providing noticeably more traction on every surface. Whether you are on a winding road, attempting a hill start or tackling slippery surfaces, optimal traction is guaranteed.

Driver orientation in the BMW 7 Series Sedan. It's the attention to detail that makes a good car a great one. Details that drivers know how to appreciate like the BMW 7 Series Sedan's ergonomic concept. With the position of the centre console rising up slightly towards the driver, all functions are positioned on the driver's side while all comfort functions are arranged further towards the middle to give the entire passenger compartment a clear and functional structure. Appropriately separated from one another, the function buttons for cruise control are on the one side and the control elements for the audio system and telephone are on the other.

The iDrive operating concept in the BMW 7 Series Sedan. Right to continue, left for back and turn to select: you've now learned how to operate the new iDrive which gives you full control over all of the BMW 7 Series Sedan's functions from the navigation system to the integrated user guide. You can access the most important functions directly using the direct buttons and favourite keys. The optional high-resolution 10.2-inch display offers outstanding picture quality and you can use the "Back" key at any time to retrace your step

BMW Night Vision with detection of individual persons in the BMW 7 Series Sedan. Safer night-time driving. BMW Night Vision, an optional extra from BMW ConnectedDrive, can see in the dark and warns the driver of any approaching danger located outside the range of the headlights. An infrared camera positioned behind the BMW kidney grille reveals objects up to 300 metres ahead of the vehicle. Pedestrians and cyclists are identified and highlighted on the Control Display. Three processors simultaneously calculate all movements outside the vehicle and along the route of the BMW 7 Series Sedan. In potentially dangerous situations, an acoustic signal and a visual warning sign immediately make the driver aware of the problem so he can react in a timely manner.

Lane Change Warning in the BMW 7 Series Sedan. The BMW 7 Series supports drivers discreetly by generating vibrations on the steering wheel. At the rear, radar sensors monitor traffic conditions, and a triangular symbol on the base of the exterior mirror shows the driver if there is another vehicle moving into a potentially dangerous position. As soon as the driver uses the indicator to change lanes, they are warned in such a situation by a flashing LED signal and vibrations.

Adaptive Headlights with variable light distribution on the BMW 7 Series Sedan. On a winding road at night, Adaptive Headlights move in harmony with the bend ahead: the beams of the 7 Series' headlights stay on the road and the light beam is adapted according to the vehicle's speed. When driving in the city, a low beam is used to better illuminate the road immediately ahead without dazzling oncoming drivers. And when driving at higher speeds, the Xenon headlights are raised to increase visibility. The result: outstanding illumination and a more relaxed driving experience.

Summary

The M Sport Package*, accentuates the sporty character of the BMW 7 Series with dynamic features such as 19 " M light alloy wheels V-spoke 302 M with mixed tyres (optionally with 20 " light alloy wheels Double-spoke 303 M), and ornamental elements in the front and rear apron. The M Aerodynamic components and the active chassis .
In conjunction with BMW Individual High-gloss Shadow Line, the ornamental elements in the front and rear bumper trim are in Chrome, dark (main picture above). With Chrome Line, the applications are in Chrome, high-gloss.
In the interior, the sport seats for driver and front passenger provide perfect side support even in fast bends. The grippy M leather steering wheel, the BMW Individual roo iner Anthracite and the interior trims in Fine Brushed Aluminium complement the sporting look. * May not be available in all countries.
M leather steering wheel with a slightly smaller diameter, special thumbrests and leather lining sits well in the hands.

At the 2008 LA Auto Show, BMW announced the North American version of BMW 7 Series would use a 4.4 L twin-turbo V8 engine (from the BMW X6 xDrive50i) rated at 400 bhp (300 kW) and 450 lb·ft (610 N·m) of torque. The ActiveHybrid7 is the first BMW with automatic transmission to feature an Auto Start Stop function avoiding idle speed operation of the engine when at a standstill or in traffic jams.
